Hey everybody! As you may have noticed, I have just updated the look of my Blogger profile! This new look is also going to be the new look of my new website that will be going live very soon! All of this new stuff must mean something right? ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! I am wrapping up production on my new album and am almost settled in on a release date! My Eyes Have Seen! (Luke 2) MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Hey everyone, I hope that you all have a Merry Christmas celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ! I have recently been reading through the Gospels and am now reading through Luke. I came across Luke 2 which gives the account of Jesus birth which is the reason why we celebrate Christmas! But going beyond the birth story, we see the prophecy of Simeon in the latter part of chapter 2! He was promised to see the Messiah before his life was to end and when he saw Jesus, he knew that this was the Son of the living God and the Savior of the World! He said this... "Now, according to your word, Sovereign Lord, permit your servant to depart in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light, for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel." (Luke 2:29-32 NET Bible) What a day that would have been - to be Simeon and to have seen Jesus and to know that He was the promised Savior of the World! My eyes have seen His salvation even in our day today! God has shown me time and time again that He is faithful and that He loves us even to the point of death on the Cross! Jesus was born into this world so that He could die and take our place and rise again so that we might have eternal life with Him! Update on Video Project - New Media For Urban Ministry

Grace and peace,

The last couple of weeks, I have been working hard on many things at Crossroads Bible College. All of this is in addition to my usual load of song writing, recording, traveling and other things pertaining to my music ministry. I have been blessed with the opportunity to help redesign the website for my college. I have had midterms to study for and to be tested over what I have learned so far this semester. And finally, I have this class project that I am working on for my New Media For Urban Ministry course. In my last blog post, I shared that I was working on a discipleship video project to encourage believers to take action and make disciples in the way that Jesus Christ instructed them! The planning stage is still in progress as I am trying to gather content and ideas for the direction of the video. However, one thing that I have discovered is that making disciples is not as scary of a subject as initially thought - and I would encourage you all to be bold in this concept as well! Making disciples is simply what Christians are to do as a part of daily Christian living. There is no magic formula or special instructions to follow...it is simply demonstrating to others (through word and deed) how to live a life that is pleasing to Christ and how to know God more. That is basically it! And when we learn to grow in that sense, we can encourage others to grow - who will encourage others to grow - and so on! Making disciples is something natural that flows out of being a follower of Christ and should not be feared as something that is overwhelming and complex. As I continue to work on this project (which is due next Tuesday), I will continue to update on progress (if not releasing the final cut before I can update again). I hope that you'll check back and learn all about what it means to make disciples of all nations!

New Media For Urban Ministry Video Project (Pre-Production)

Be sure to check out my video blog below! I will be doing a project for my New Media For Urban Ministry class at Crossroads Bible College discussing the importance of discipleship! This project will be released in the form of a video. I do not have all the details at this time regarding the content contained in this video - but rest assured, it will be considered "New Media" hopefully containing some cutting edge graphics, audio and more! However, the most important aspect will be the content - encouraging you to make disciples as Jesus did and in such a way that the disciples will continue on to make more disciples for Christ beyond the immediate relationship! New Media For Urban Ministry - Paperless Society?

Many times when we think of "New Media" we think immediately of the digital age. We think of computers, ipods, mp3 files and so on. However, we neglect often times to see that there is still a need for hard copies of information such as books. This past week we talked about the "design phase" of creating a New Media project in which a paper prototype is laid out. My immediate reaction was - "Why do I need to draw it out on paper when I can just as easily do it on my computer?" However, our professor explained to us that the time between brain-pencil-paper is many times MUCH faster than the time between brain-mouse-keyboard-word processor-screen-printer and so on. So the questions is this - can we afford to live in a paperless society? I believe that Christ desires that we be lights in the world and use the tools that are available for our culture today. I am a huge advocate of computer technology and appreciate the value that it has in ministry. However, we cannot toss out the pen and paper as if it is outdated and useless. When we allocate our time properly, we can do great things for the Kingdom of Christ because of the very fact that we saved time that could be used for His purposes. While computers are pretty much a necessary part of my life (I could not write this blog without a computer), there is still room for the good old pen and paper! Just more thoughts to ponder for the week as you seek to effectively serve our Creator!

New Media For Urban Ministry - First Post

Grace and Peace!

This blog has been primarily focused on my music ministry and things that God has been teaching me personally up until this point. However, now I would like to include some learnings from a class that I am taking at Crossroads Bible College called "New Media For Urban Ministry." I feel that this could be much more than just fulfillment of an assignment but helpful to you as readers and servants of Christ in a way that will affect your ministry to be more effective for the Kingdom! In class, we watched a short video recently that discusses the necessity of being innovative within the Church! This in NO way means that we are to sacrifice Scripture or truth for the sake of being innovative. However, we can see trends that Churches that are being more innovative in their ministry are bringing in more unsaved people to relationship with Christ, have better worship services, and have a deeper commitment to their relationships with Christ! It is important that we separate ourselves from the world's way of thinking as it is self-centered and not God-centered, but not the methods used to become culturally relevant! Technology can and should be used in a way that is glorifying to God and relevant to the people - even in the context of the local Church! With that said, we also must be careful not to be using technology just for the sake of using technology. In this class, we have discussed a topic known as User Centered Design. This basically means that everything we do must be designed in such a way that it reaches the target audience with what they know and where they are. Paul the Apostle calls this concept becoming all things to all people! The truth of the Gospel cannot be changed! However, our methods need to change if we are to raise up the next generation of believers! God has given us an incredible responsibility in which we need to be good stewards! These are just a few of the things that I have learned so far in this class. I hope to share more with you over the weeks to come!

A Culture Of NOISE - Insights From Psalm 119

Grace and Peace!

Tonight, I heard a sermon that is the beginning of a sermon series entitled "Attention Deficit". What a convicting thought! How often do we go about our normal lives and in the presence of normality find an absence of true relationship with God? With ways to be in constant communication everywhere in our technological world we can still find it very difficult to communicate the God who is infinitely more accessible than any facebook friend, twitter feed or blog post! We find so much time to communicate with our world in so many ways - and YES, some of them are good - but sometimes we just become down right distracted and forget about the God who created us! This is the tone of voice from the Psalmist when he writes this...

"I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant for I do not forget your commandments." (ESV Psalm 119:176)

I would challenge you all as you read this - or after you read this :) - to take some time to consider what it means to have an attitude and lifestyle that is constantly seeking after the God who loves us so much! Take some time to just sit in the silence of your bedroom, office, outside in God's creation, or somewhere where you can be alone and just pray, read God's Word and seek after Him just as the Psalmist did! I pray that you will put aside the culture of noise and take on the challenge for this week to take some time to be silent before God! We have all gone astray like lost sheep and get distracted by other things (even good things can get in the way)! It is not enough to simply know God's Word - we must seek the God who gave the Word just as He is seeking after us!

Concerts For Kindness - September 20, 2009

On September 20, 2009 I will be singing for an event in Fishers, IN that raises awareness and funds for homeless neighbors in the Indianapolis area. I would encourage you to attend this concert and consider supporting this ministry. We know that it is not simply seeking to help homeless individuals with physical needs - but we must address the spiritual need as the greatest importance! This is what I appreciate about Concerts For Kindness - they seek to help people with their physical needs while carrying the Gospel of Jesus Christ to give them hope beyond the things this world has to offer! I hope that you can make it out for a great night of praise and worship to the God who gives us a home in heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord!

What Kind Of Soil Are You? (Matthew 13:18-23)

Tonight, I relearned from a familiar passage of Scripture what it means to be a Christian who is dedicated to seeking after Christ despite the events of life. There will always be things in life that will attempt to divert our attention or cause us to stray from God but the matter of the fact is - seeking after God takes great effort on our part. We see this from the parable of the sower - or more specifically - the parable of the soils. This passage comes from the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 13...

Matthew 13:18-23 (ESV)

¹⁸^k “Hear then the parable of the sower: ¹⁹When anyone hears the word of ^lthe kingdom and ^mdoes not understand it, ⁿthe evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. ²⁰As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately ^oreceives it with joy, ²¹yet he has no root in himself, but ^pendures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately ^qhe falls away.¹ ²²As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but ^rthe cares of ^sthe world and ^tthe deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. ²³As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and ^munderstands it. He indeed ^ubears fruit and yields, in one case ^va hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.” (English Standard Version)

My question for you is this - where do you see yourself in this parable? Are you like the path on which the Word never takes root? Are you like the rocky ground that makes an effort but immediately reverts back to old ways? Are you the soil surrounded by thorns that becomes so caught up in seeking after other things in life more than God that you become unproductive for Christ? Or are you as the soil that takes the Word of God and allows it to root deep in your heart to bring an entire change in lifestyle? As a believer in Christ, I can guarantee you that life will never be perfect or free from distractions. As a sower must dig deep into the soil and till the ground to a useable condition - so God will work in your life (even in tough times) to bring change that is glorifying to Him! There will be trials - yes - but sometimes we hang on to our own sins because we think we can handle them! Before you know it, you can become swallowed up by sin because you have not surrendered your life to the Sower - God! Allow Him to work in your life today - be willing to follow Him, even to the end so that you will be able to do incredible things for God's Kingdom and you will be rewarded either in this life or in heaven for your dedicated service! God bless you as you think upon these things!
